ATTENTION NEW HOMEOWNERS!
GEORGIA LAW provides that every new homeowner, as of January of the new year, is eligible to claim Homestead Exemption as a tax benefit that can amount to considerable annual savings for the homeowner.
A Homestead Exemption allows a partial exemption on a portion of the assessed value of your home. The amount varies from county to county. You will be surprised by how quickly you can get this sorted out. To qualify for the property tax exemption, the HOMEOWNER must file for Homestead Exemption at the county Court House or Tax office, either in person, by mail, or on the web site, depending on the county in which you reside. Additionally, it is noteworthy to determine from your respective county when you qualify for a senior discount- which will grant you a very substantial discount off your property taxes.
The following is a list of several counties, their phone numbers, and web sites. Though some have specific filing dates, many counties now permit you to file year round. Please call the number of the county in which you reside or refer to their web site for instructions on filing. If further assistance is required, call Michael Migliore, Broker at 770.271.3330.
NOTE: You need only file Homestead Exemption ONCE! You need not file each year...
